Photography Tips
Good quality reference photographs are extremely important. The eyes especially must be clear in a picture as this is the main focus of any portrait, and allows the true likeness to be achieved. Please follow the pointers below when doing your own pet's photoshoot:
- If possible, enlist a friend to help, and equip them with plenty of tasty treats!
- Take the photographs outside on a cloudy day (not bright sunlight), with NO FLASH as this alters natural reflections and coat colours.
- Ensure you and your friend are both down at the pets level
- Get your friend to 'direct' the pets head/eyes
- The best head angle is looking slightly away from the camera, but not complete side profile. A picture where you can still see the far eye is ideal - see the example picture below.
- Refrain from getting too close to your pet, a couple of metres away is fine.
- If taking photos of multiple animals, concentrate on one at a time. Individual photos are actually preferred, as it's near impossible to get a great shot of all pets at the same time!
- Pick out a variety of photographs that you think best represent your pet. Remember - if the photograph doesn't show a true likeness, the portrait won't either.
- Save and send your pictures in the highest resolution possible, a variety is great as I can then get a good general idea of your pet's look.
